Youth Leadership Council

Empowering the Next Generation of Animal Advocates

The Greenville Humane Society Youth Leadership Council (YLC) is a dedicated program designed to engage 10th-12th grade high school students in meaningful service, leadership, and advocacy for animal welfare. This council brings together passionate, service-minded teens who are committed to supporting our mission of preserving the lives and enhancing the well-being of animals.

YLC Mission

To foster youth leadership and service while promoting responsible pet ownership, animal welfare education, and community engagement in partnership with the Greenville Humane Society.

Program Details

Community Engagement & Education

  • Lead awareness campaigns in local schools and across social media platforms to promote adoption, responsible pet care, and humane treatment of animals.
  • Organize educational workshops and public events to inform the community about important topics such as spaying/neutering, animal health, and shelter needs.

Fundraising & Resource Development

  • Plan and execute fundraising initiatives throughout the year to support the Greenville Humane Society’s ongoing efforts.
  • Collaborate with local businesses to secure sponsorships and donations.
  • Participate in an annual campaign, in which each council member is responsible for raising $500 in funds or in-kind donations to benefit the shelter.

Volunteerism & Direct Service

  • Support shelter operations by volunteering with animal care, adoption events, and community outreach programs.
  • Commit to a minimum of one volunteer shift per month (2-hours) at the shelter to remain actively engaged.

Membership Requirements

Applicants must be 10th-12th grade high school students during the year of participation and demonstrate a strong commitment to leadership, service, and animal advocacy.

To maintain active membership on the Youth Leadership Council, students must:

  • Complete at least one volunteer shift per month
  • Attend regularly scheduled monthly council meetings
  • Fulfill the annual fundraising goal of $500, through donations or collected supplies

Additional opportunities for leadership development, professional skill-building, and community impact will be offered throughout the year.

Program Timeline

The Youth Leadership Council operates on an academic-year basis, with meetings and activities running from August 2025 through April 2026.

Students interested in making a difference for animals in their community are encouraged to apply. This program does not guarantee acceptance of every applicant.
