Medical Center Volunteer Opportunities

Medical Center Caregiver

This position is available to volunteers 18 years or older who have served 25+ hours as an Adoption Center Caregiver or Adoption Center Dog Walker.  The following tasks are performed in our new Medical Center:

  • Cleaning cages/runs and sweeping the animal holding rooms
  • Monitoring/socializing animals in the animal holding rooms
  • Unfolding newspaper, doing laundry and washing dishes in the Medical Center Volunteer Room

Medical Center Caregivers must be able to respect GHS policies and procedures, consider the safety of the animals at all times, stay on task, work well with others, stand for extended periods of time and get their hands dirty.

After being accepted into the program, all Medical Center Caregiver Volunteers will be required to purchase a $10 volunteer t-shirt at orientation and attend a training session to understand the protocols and potential hazards of working in the Medical Center (hospital-type environment). The Medical Center t-shirts are a different color than the Adoption Center t-shirts and will need to be worn at all times when performing your volunteer duties.

Surgical Prep Technicians

This position is available to volunteers 21 years or older who have served 25+ hours as an Adoption Center Caregiver or Adoption Center Dog Walker.  The following tasks are performed in our new Medical Center:

  • Work closely with Greenville Humane Society veterinarians and technicians
  • Clean surgical instruments and assemble surgical packs to be autoclaved
  • Wash/fold surgical drapes and towels
  • Unwrap syringes and make rice socks to help keep patients warm

Medical Center Caregivers must be able to respect GHS policies and procedures, consider the safety of the animals at all times, work independently to stay on task and stand for extended periods of time.
