Adoption Center Volunteer Opportunities

Adoption Center Caregiver

This position is available to individuals who are 15 years or older. The following tasks are performed in our Adoption Center:

  • Cleaning cages/runs and sweeping the animal holding rooms
  • Monitoring/socializing animals in the animal holding rooms
  • Unfolding newspaper, doing laundry, and washing dishes in the Adoption Center Volunteer Room

Adoption Center Caregivers must be able to respect GHS policies and procedures, consider the safety of the animals at all times, stay on task, work well with others, stand for extended periods of time, and get their hands dirty. After being accepted into the program, all Adoption Center Caregivers will be required to purchase a $10 volunteer t-shirt at orientation.

After you have submitted an application, the Volunteer Coordinator will contact you within 2-5 business days to let you know if your application has been approved and to schedule your orientation. If no orientation is scheduled within 60 days of approval, your application will expire.

Adoption Center Dog Walkers

This position is available to individuals who are 16 years or older. The following tasks are performed in our Adoption Center:

  • Exercising adult dogs
  • Working with them on basic manners, socialization and enrichment
  • Unfolding newspaper, doing laundry, and washing dishes in the Adoption Center Volunteer Room

Adoption Center Dog Walkers must be able to respect GHS policies and procedures, consider the safety of the animals at all times, stay on task, work well with others, walk long distances and lift heavy items. After being accepted into the program, all Adult Dog Walking Volunteers will be required to purchase a $10 volunteer t-shirt and $10 slip lead leash at orientation.

 

Adoption Center
Weekend Greeter

This position is available to individuals who are 18 years or older. The following tasks are performed in our Adoption Center Lobby:

  • Greeting customers as they arrive at our facility and making them feel welcomed
  • Guiding customers in the right direction depending on their needs
  • Helping to keep our facility clean and organized
  • Helping customers carry items into/out of our facility
  • Required Skills for this position:
  • Cheerful and Positive attitude
  • Consistency and reliability
  • Loves serving and helping others
  • Being able to maintain eye contact and speak clearly
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and wear a smile

Adoption Center Weekend Greeters must be able to respect GHS policies and procedures, consider the safety of the animals at all times, stay on task, and work well with others. After being accepted into the program, all Adoption Center Weekend Greeters will be required to purchase a $10 volunteer t-shirt at orientation and a $10 nametag.
