About Us
The Greenville Humane Society has served the Greenville community since the 1800’s, and continues to unite families with previously unwanted animals every day. The Greenville Humane Society (GHS) was incorporated in 1939 as the South Carolina Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SCSPCA). Over the years, we have helped unite an estimated 1 million people in the upstate with previously unwanted animals.
Our mission is to promote and improve the quality of life and humane treatment of animals. Methods for accomplishing this mission include reducing the unwanted animal population by placing them into homes and spaying or neutering the animals we receive, educating the public, encouraging responsible pet ownership, eliminating animal cruelty and suffering, and seeking support for animal welfare legislation.
As a non-profit organization that receives no United Way or government funding, the Greenville Humane Society is completely dependent on contributions from the public and private sector. Contributions are tax-deductible.
