Humane Education

The human side of animal rescue is all about providing individuals with the information necessary to be caring and compassionate pet owners as well as advocates for animal rights.  As the Upstate’s only No Kill facility, the Greenville Humane Society’s Humane Education programs are essential to promoting empathy and kindness towards animals and humans while breaking the cycle of violence and animal homelessness.    We offer a variety of programs for area schools, civic organizations and businesses including classroom presentations, service learning opportunities, shelter tours, and birthday parties for people of all ages. Our goal is to foster respect and compassion for animals and to strengthen the human-companion animal bond through learning. To set up a classroom presentation, a service learning opportunity, a shelter tour or Birthday Party, contact Paula Church.

Classroom Presentations

Classroom presentations are customized to meet the needs of various ages, class sizes and group needs.  We have found that almost any subject can be adapted to learning about the plight of animals. In addition, kids from pre-school to high school love learning about ways they can make a difference in the life of an animal.  We focus on such issues as Animal Safety, Responsible Pet Care, Careers with Animals, Pet Overpopulation and the role of the Greenville Humane Society in our Community. We are happy to customize a program that fits your needs.  We can bring one of our furry friends to help teach the lesson and allow the students to interact with an animal.  To set up a presentation contact Paula Church.

Service Learning Opportunities

If you are looking for a charitable opportunity for your group or students, The Greenville Humane Society will gladly provide guidance on service projects that educate while teaching them about the homeless animals in our community.  Whether it’s a newspaper drive or fundraising ideas we will help with a project that is sure to teach a lesson in the value of helping make your community a better place.  We can do on-site or off-site projects.

Shelter Tours

We are proud of our beautiful new facility and love to show it off!  Our new building at Airport Road was recently honored with a 2011 Greenville American Institute of Architects Design Merit Award.  Judges commented that the Greenville Humane Society project “represents where humane societies should go”. If your group of students would like to learn more about the role the Greenville Humane Society plays within our community please schedule a shelter tour. It’s an opportunity to learn about the reasons animals end up homeless and what you can do to prevent it.  It’s the perfect way to see a “day in the life” of an animal at the Greenville Humane Society.  Hopefully, this tour will encourage visitors to understand the importance of proper care and compassion towards all companion pets.

(While we provide this service for free, a donation is always appreciated)

Birthday Parties

Come spend your special day at the Greenville Humane Society.  Our staff and volunteers will make your birthday bash as memorable as possible with a behind the scenes shelter tour, crafts, a cake, decorations and more.  Of course you will have an opportunity to meet the real party animals.  Parties are a great way for kids to start thinking about homeless animals in our community and what they can do to help.
